Savour The Flavours Of Huron
Finding local, fresh and delicious tasting food doesn’t get any easier than it does in Huron County. As one of the largest food-producing regions in the Province of Ontario, the diversity of food products available all year long is incredible.
Order the Ploughman’s Platter at the Cowbell Brewery Restaurant in Blyth. It features Huron County’s best cured meats, cheese, farm preserves, pickled vegetables and farm-smoked BBQ mustard. Mention to the server that the cheese was outstanding – so unique and flavorful. They will smile and tell you that it is because it is a special cheese made exclusively for the restaurant by a local cheesemaker using a blend of Cowbell’s Beer. It’s one of kind. After lunch you head home but not before making a detour to Blyth Farm Cheese where you can meet the cheesemaker in person, partake in a generous sampling of his cheeses and buy some to take home. Blyth’s Nettle becomes a favorite and really who could resist Blyth’s Drunken Goat?
In fact, it is this authentic farm to table experience that visitors to the county can enjoy. Fabulous D-I-Y summer menus can be created just by going on a road trip adventure or touring the myriad of Farmers’ Markets offered in the county.
If cooking isn’t part of the vacation plan, restaurants often feature the best foods the county has to offer each season on their menus. Or if you just want to take a taste of Huron home to indulge yourself or share with others, specialty shops and small grocers carry a wide selection of produce, artisanal food products, baked goods, coffee and more.
