Dads/Male Caregivers and Kids returns this fall with in-person gatherings taking place once a month at the Huron County Museum or Huron Historic Gaol.
Presented in partnership with Rural Response for Health Children, each gathering includes tours of the Museum or Gaol, artifact and exhibit activities, parent/child social time, healthy snacks, and games. This is a great in-person event to spend together with your children! Please register a week before the program starts. Visit www.rrhc.on.ca to register online.
Program themes, dates and times:
- Thursday, Sept. 28, 6 p.m. (at the Museum): This month’s theme is Back to School. Learn about what school was like in the past and play with some old school artifacts.
- Thursday, Oct. 26, 6 p.m. (at the Gaol): This month’s theme is Museum Ghosts. Take a tour of the Gaol and learn about some of the spooky stories that have happened in this historic building.
- Thursday, Nov. 23, 6 p.m. (at the Museum): This month’s theme is Remembrance Day. Discuss the importance of Remembrance Day and Huron County’s participation in the World Wars. Participate in a fun weaving craft.
- Thursday, Dec. 21, 6 p.m. (at the Museum): This month’s theme is Holidays and Celebrations. Learn about holidays and how they are celebrated in different cultures.

Dads/Male Caregivers and Kids returns this winter with in-person or Zoom gatherings taking place the last Thursday of each month.
Presented in partnership with Rural Response for Health Children, each gathering includes fun-filled themed activities, parent discussions and social time. This is a great virtual/in-person event to spend together with your children!
Thanks to a grant from Second Harvest and the Government of Canada, Rural Response is providing $70 gift cards to local restaurants for each adult participant. Monthly registration is required to receive virtual meeting access. Please register the Tuesday before the program starts. Visit www.rrhc.on.ca to register online.
- April 27, 6 p.m. (virtual): Can we look to the past for a better future? In honour of Earth Day, look at technologies, objects and methods ancestors used in the past for their daily lives that are still sustainable and environmentally friendly today.
- May 25, 6 p.m. (in-person at the Gaol): An escape the gaol tour! Interactive in-person tour of the Huron Historic Gaol with stories of escapes, attempted escapes, and how staff prevented jailbreaks. End (weather-permitting) with an escape-the-jail obstacle course in the large courtyard.
- June 22, 6 p.m. (virtual): If objects could talk, what story would they tell? Sharing first-generation immigrant artifacts in the Huron County Museum’s collection. What have people brought with them? What can these objects tell us about Huron County families? Can you guess what countries objects come from in our kahoot quiz?
